Comic Con set to take over Dover

Dover Comic Con
Dover Comic Con could draw as many as 10,000 visitors to dowtown Dover.

Boasting everything from X-Men to The Walking Dead, this year’s Dover Comic Con promises to be bigger than years past, with events stretching from the Dover Public Library out past The Green and down Loockerman street.

The City of Dover partners with The Dover Public Library, the Biggs Museum, the Dover Art League and others for the event, which could bring in as many as 10,000 people.

"We have things going on at the library, the Dover Art League, the Schwartz Center, the First State Heritage Park, the Biggs Museum. So it’s a lot bigger this year. We’re taking over Dover," Dover Public Library Assistant Keri Hollyday said.

Like most comic cons, Dover’s promises plenty of Cosplay, where people dress up like their favorite comic book and movie characters. You could see everyone from Batman to Sailor Moon out on The Green.

"We have 120 exhibitors. That’s including vendors, artists, authors and fan groups,” said Teen Librarian Katy Goff.

Goff said there will be plenty to do for the younger crowd, too, with events on comic book drawing and writing, a miniature train ride and a costume contest.

Events start Saturday August 7.
