The Longwood Foundation is launching a new challenge grant to bolster the Delaware COVID-19 Strategic Response Fund.

The new $500,000 challenge grant will give donors the opportunity to double the impact of their gift through August 31.

Upcoming June grants from the fund will target nonprofit organizations helping the state navigate the COVID-19 crisis in areas such as health and social services, education, animal welfare, and arts and culture.

The Delaware Community Foundation manages COVID-19 Strategic Response Fund and its president, Stuart Comstock Gay says the donations will be matched dollar for dollar.

"This is going very well, our money has brought in lots of extra money. We'll put in another $500,000 to be matching dollar-for-dollar into this fund," said Comstock Gay. "What's so important about it is this fund is here to both address needs right now but to also be looking at sustainability and continuation of critical support in this state over the coming months."

This is the second $500,000 challenge grant from the Longwood Foundation raising its total commitment to the fund to $2 million in the past eight weeks.

The COVID-19 Strategic Response Fund launched on March 18th and initially awarded grants weekly.

So far, the fund has given out $2.3 million to 94 nonprofit organizations - helping them feed, house, and provide healthcare for tens of thousands of Delawareans during the pandemic, while also supporting the arts, education, and libraries.

The application dates for nonprofits to apply for the next set of grants are June 1 and June 15, and they can apply at delcf.org.
