The head of Delaware’s Department of Safety and Homeland Security is leaving.
Sec. Robert Coupe is moving to the state Attorney General’s office next month to become Chief of Staff.
Coupe was Gov. Carney’s choice to lead Safety and Homeland Security three years ago. He previously served as Department of Correction commissioner and capped more than two decades with the Delaware State Police with a stint as its superintendent.
In a statement, Attorney General Kathy Jennings says she looks forward to working with Coupe on “making Delaware’s justice system more fair and equal for everyone, upholding public safety, and protecting Delawareans’ rights from injustices in our state and nationally.”
Carney has nominated the current head of Delaware State Police Col. Nathaniel McQueen, Jr. to replace Coupe as Secretary of the Department of Safety and Homeland Security.
In a statement, Carney calls McQueen a “real public servant and a natural leader.”
The state Senate is expected to consider McQueen’s nomination in March.
