DNREC logo gets a new look

State of Delaware/DNREC

DNREC unveiled its new logo last week.

DNREC’s new logo features a sun shining high in the sky along with three yellow poplar trees representing the three counties in Delaware, and the land has a slight bow to show the state’s low elevation with the water, land, and sky representing the environment.

The new circular shape is meant to evoke a sense of community and positivity, the green symbolizes freshness, growth, and balance while the blues represent serenity, stability, inspiration and wisdom.

The vibrant yellow promotes hope.

DNREC spokesperson Nikki Lavoie explains why the change of the logo.

"We really needed to modernize our look. The older logo no longer worked with some of our digital platforms. The new shape and style of the logo works better in different channels and different spaces, but it's important to remember behind the new-look we're still the same organization and team dedicated to our shared mission to protect the natural environment."

Lavoie from DNREC says the logo will be phased in over time.

"DNREC has already updated its website and its social media networks with the refresh brand design. The content and print and other channels will transition to the new look over time. We have building signs, we have lots of directional signs, and state parks and that sort of thing that have the current logo, and we're not going to replace those overnight."

Lavoie notes each division within the department will get a fresh new look in the next couple of months to complement DNREC’s new logo.
