Delmarva Poultry Industry changes name to Delmarva Chicken Association

The Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. changes its name and logo. The nearly 75 year-old organization is now the Delmarva Chicken Association (DCA).

The Delmarva Poultry Industry, Inc. (DPI) gets a new name and logo.

The Delmarva Poultry Industry, which represents chicken farmers, chicken companies and related businesses, is now the Delmarva Chicken Association.

“This is something that our organization knew by late 2018 that we wanted to execute. And we took our time to do it right. This organization was founded in 1948 - believe it or not- as the Delmarva Chicken Festival, Inc. And since the mid-1950’s, we’ve been known as the Delmarva Poultry Industry,” said the Association’s communications manager James Fisher.

Fisher says the new logo is a blue and yellow circular seal encircling a sunburst and a mature broiler chicken - representing those grown on Delmarva.

He says becoming the Delmarva Chicken Association is meant to clarify the group’s mission and values as one of the nation’s largest chicken communities.

Fisher says even though there are fewer chicken growers on Delmarva today than 20 years ago, the growth in chickens raised increases a little every year.

In 2019, the Delmarva chicken industry produced 609 million chickens and generated $3.5 billion in revenue.

Fisher adds that 403 billion pounds of chicken was processed in 2019 and there were 1,325 chicken growers.
