COVID-Be-Damned mini Jazz Festival coming to Rehoboth/Dewey in October

The 2020 Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival this October is among the live music events postponed by COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced many events to postpone or cancel over the past five months. But one Rehoboth organization is determined to bring live music to the area:

Rehoboth Beach Jazz Festival organizers recently postponed the 2020 edition of their event - scheduled for October 15, 2020 through October 18, 2020.

Denny Santangini is the president of the Delaware Celebration of Jazz - the nonprofit that puts on the annual Festival.

“We decided to postpone this event because it’s really difficult for the Governor to make a decision right now of large gatherings,” said Santangini.

Santangini adds that doing a virtual festival was deemed too difficult logistically. So they sought a middle ground, and plan to host a mini in-person Jazz Festival limited to five performances.

“We’re calling it the “COVID-Be-Damned” (mini Jazz Fest) under the Governor’s guidelines," said Santangini. "We want you to come. We want to vaccinate your soul for the music of the cure - that’s the way we’re putting it for people to come and enjoy the music.”

Santangini says music is good for the soul, especially during the pandemic.

“It does have qualities of making your brain feel better and happy and that environment in your body brings out certain chemicals that makes you feel good," So we want everyone to come and help us pay for this," said Santangini.

Santangini says the festival is October 16, 2020 through October 18, 2020 at the Rusty Rudder Complex in Dewey Beach.

Attendance will be limited to 90 seats, with six foot social distancing. He adds that masks will be required. Tickets, as well as the lineup, are available at at the festival's website.
