54 dogs rescued from Hurricane Dorian devastation in Bahamas now in Delaware

Hurricane Dorian’s impact is still being felt in the Bahamas over a month after it struck there. And the Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) is helping it cope with one of the issues it’s facing.

The BVSPCA welcomed 54 dogs to its new Georgetown facility over the weekend.

The dogs are originally from the AbacoIslands; Abaco and Grand Bahama which suffered the most damage during the hurricane.

They were rescued by a coalition of local animal welfare groups. Efforts were made to reunite the dogs with families in the Bahamas, but ones not reclaimed were flown to Georgetown last Friday.

The dogs are currently being medically evaluated and treated as needed. After a 14-day quarantine, they will be available for adoption at all three BVSPCA campuses.
