Special election for control of Senate set for February

Delaware Public Media

Voters in a portion of Western New Castle County voters will decide the fate of the state Senate next month.

The special election to fill the seat vacated by Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long (D) is set for Saturday Feb. 25.

Hall-Long’s departure leaves the state Senate deadlocked with 10 Republicans and 10 Democrats. Democrats have controlled the chamber for more than 40 years.

Democrat Stephanie Hansen, Republican John Marino and Libertarian Joseph Lanzendorfer are all running to replace Hall-Long.

Whichever candidate wins will represent the district that runs from Middletown north along Delaware’s western border to just south of Newark.
