Carney adds more familiar names to cabinet

Governor-elect John Carney (D) added two more names to his prospective cabinet Thursday morning.

Carney tapped current Deputy Secretary of State Rick Geisenberger to lead the Department of Finance.

Geisenberger has overseen Delaware’s key business incorporation franchise since 2001 that boasts two-thirds of the Fortune 500 and accounts for $1.1 billion of the state’s revenue.

Delaware’s current Chief Information Officer, James Collins, will potentially remain in that job.

Gov. Jack Markell (D) appointed Collins to the post in 2014. Before that, he served as Markell’s deputy chief of staff and a consultant to two tech companies.

Carney has now nominated six cabinet picks – all but one of them either holding over from the Markell Administration or having ties to it, despite having campaigned with the slogan “A New Tomorrow.”

State senators must confirm his choices when they gavel in next month.
