Gov. Markell heads to Germany on trade mission

Delaware Public Media

Gov. Jack Markell (D-Delaware)  is headed across the Atlantic this week to promote trade between the First State and Germany.

Earlier this year, the Markell administration targeted four international markets, including Germany,  to focus on in terms of boosting exports.

A Markell spokesman says he will be visiting small and medium-sized companies in the southern part of the country, as well as other business and legal interest groups to promote Delaware’s corporate climate.

Delaware grew exports to Germany by nearly 30 percent over the past two years – last year totaling more than $390 million.

Markell says the First State needs to expand its international profile to compete in a more globalized economy.

The trip is estimated to cost about $50,000, with the governor and his delegation arriving in Munich Tuesday and returning next Monday.
