Delaware Public Media remembers Dennis Rochford

All of us at Delaware Public Media are saddened by the news that one of our board members, Dennis Rochford, passed away on July 31.

Denny was among the earliest supporters of the need for a Delaware-centric NPR affiliate, and he was part of the small group in 2009 that founded what we know today as DPM.

Denny was a founding board member and tireless supporter since the start, at various times serving as board chair, chair of the nominating and governance committee, and member of the executive and finance committees. He was a steadfast champion of our success and a tireless advocate on our behalf.

With his vast experience in business and government, and his acumen as a leader and political advisor, Denny understood the nuances of how Delaware works like few others. Over the years, he remained a sought-after commentator. Whether on DPM or other media outlets during the 2020 election, or as a weekly panelist on WHYY’s “Delaware Tonight” for 11 years (with another founding board member, Nancy Karibjanian), Denny offered insight and perspectives that provided balanced views and kept Delawareans informed.

Denny’s substantial and significant contributions to DPM are beyond measure. The breadth and depth of his experience made him uniquely qualified to help us navigate the political landscape, steer us through funding challenges, and guide our growth. Words cannot express how much we will miss his advice, counsel, wit, warmth, and friendship.

Dennis Rochford supported Delaware and surrounding community in many ways. His funeral will be held August 9 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Springfield, Pa.
