Delaware continues to add COVID cases at a record pace

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Coronavirus cases continue a steep trend upward, with no end in sight.

December 3 broke more records.  916 new cases were recorded, blowing past the record 754 cases reported December 2.

The 7 day average of new cases of COVID-19 is now at 607 per day, continuing on an upward trend.

Hospitalizations are also quickly reaching levels last seen back in April. The current number of people hospitalized from the virus stands at 288 with 37 people considerd critical.

Federal public health officials don’t think this wave is at its peak yet, and expect a continued trend upwards in cases.

The weekly average number of people testing positive for the virus has risen to 20.7 percent. The percent of positive tests is now 8.2.

The rise in COVID cases prompted Gov. John Carney to announce a voluntary stay-at-home advisory beginning December 14th through mid January.

But, he says, if hospitalizations continue to rise, there could be harsher restrictions and lockdowns to come.

Since Wednesday, 4 people have died from the virus, bringing the total death toll in Delaware to 782.
