The First State continues to see an uptick in its new COVID-19 cases.
State health officials announced 98 new cases Tuesday – along with 2 deaths.
The total of positive cases since March 11 is now 11,474.
The five-day average of new cases and the percent of people testing positive continue to go up. The average of new cases statewide has been over 100 for 3 of the past four days, while the percent of people testing positive is back over 6 percent for the first time since June 6th.
And at Gov. Carney’s weekly coronavirius briefing Tuesday, Division of Public Health Director Dr. Karyl Rattay says the percent of people testing positive and new cases are spiking in the Rehoboth and Dewey Beach area. The five day average of the percent of people testing there sits just below 10 percent.
But there is some good news. Current hospitalizations dropped again – down 8 to 64, with 13 people critically ill.
The two deaths announced push the Delaware’s death toll from the virus to 509.
The latest victims were New Castle County residents between 77 and 83 years-old. Both lived at long-term care facilities.
Over 99,000 Delawareans have tested negative for COVID-19 since March 11.
