Delaware Public Media

Funeral arrangements for a Delaware State Police trooper gunned down on Wednesday are set for next week.

The public will be allowed to pay its respects to Cpl. Stephen Ballard next Friday, May 5th at the Chase Center on the Wilmington Riverfront.

26-year-old Burgon Sealy Jr. killed Ballard Wednesday in the parking lot of a Bear area Wawa, according to State police. Sealy was shot dead by police a day later after an over 20 hour stand off at Sealy's Middletown home.

The visitation for Ballard begins at 8:30 a.m. Friday and runs through 10 a.m.

A memorial will begin soon after.

A private burial for Ballard’s family and Delaware State Police will follow in New Castle.

Delaware State Police has set up a memorial fund in the name of Corporal Ballard at the Delaware State Police Federal Credit Union. All proceeds will be given to his family.

Checks can be made out to the DSTA- Stephen Ballard Memorial Fund, PO Box 168, Cheswold DE 19936.

They emphasized this fund is the only official memorial fund dedicated to Ballard.
