Special Olympics Delaware Summer Games features Torch Run and Bike Prologue

Special Olympics Delaware

Special Olympics Delaware’s Summer Games start on Friday at the University of Delaware. Before the games, over 450 peace officers will participate in the 30th anniversary of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, carrying the Olympic torch from Rehoboth to Newark.

Corinne Plummer, with Special Olympics Delaware, said the family-friendly Bike Prologue  will be restored this year after an almost decade hiatus.

“The Bike Prorogue is open to the public, whereas the Torch Run is strictly for law enforcement officers. It’s a way for people who are not part of law enforcement to still support the Torch Run,” Plummer said.

Over 670 athletes will participate in Special Olympics Delaware this year in track and field, aquatics, bocce , powerlifting, softball and tennis.

The event starts Friday at the University of Delaware in Newark.
