Delaware Public Media

A 14-year-old boy was struck and killed trying to cross North DuPont highway in New Castle Wednesday afternoon.

Delaware State Police say the boy, Tyler Spahn, and three other teens attempted to cross US Rt. 13 near Basin Road around 3 pm Wednesday when a car struck Spahn.

State Police say Spahn, a student at nearby George Read Middle School, was treated at the scene, and then transported to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center, where he later died.

State Police add that Spahn and the other teens did not use a marked crosswalk and were approximately a quarter mile south of the pedestrian footbridge, which crosses all lanes of US Rt. 13.

The driver and three other teens were not injured. State Police say no charges will be filed in the accident.
