DART touts rising numbers on new Middletown Amazon route

Amazon is operating at its peak now that the holiday shopping season has begun.

That means more riders on DART’s new bus service between Wilmington and the online retailer's fulfillment center in Middletown.

Launched in October, DART’s Route 47 operates three round trips Monday through Saturday.

DART spokesperson Julie Theyerl says the service worked with the Delaware based staffing company that hires Amazon’s Middletown workers to establish the route.

“We got a lot of useful information about the shift times and then their trip origins for their current and prospective employees," she says. "So we mapped all of that based on their applicants and most of the applicants were coming from Wilmington and the U.S. 13 corridor in New Castle.”

According to DART, the new bus route carried approximately 150 people in its first week. That number rose to 1,000 riders in week six.
