Cape Henlopen students flagged for profane sign at football game

A high school football rivalry may land some Cape Henlopen High school students in hot water.

During Friday’s Sussex Tech/Cape High football game held in Georgetown, some Cape students displayed a profanity laced sheet in the stands and viral photos have made the rounds.

The photos show a white bedsheet about five-by-six-feet square held by about a dozen students in the visitor section of the bleachers, spray-painted with a profane message.

Cape Henlopen School District Superintendent Robert Fulton expressed disappointment in the lack of sportsmanship and poor judgement demonstrated by the students involved.

Fulton said there will be disciplinary action taken against any student found to be involved in the incident but did not immediately say what that would entail.

Meanwhile, Sussex Tech won the game 38-21 in a comeback that advances the team to the postseason as the fifth seed in the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association Division One state tournament. Sussex Tech faces Middletown in a first round game Friday night
