The Firefly Music Festival announced it plans to return this year.

The festival’s web page is displaying September 23rd through 26th of 2021 as the dates at the Woodlands behind Dover International Speedway.

The website does not offer any other details, and a spokesperson for the festival said in an email any forthcoming information will be visible on the webpage.

The state is loosening its restrictions on outdoors gatherings this week, but even under the new rules, Firefly organizers would need to have a plan approved by the state's Divsion of Public Health to welcome anything close to the crowds it usually draws.

"DPH has been in communication with Firefly organizers, AEG, regarding their anticipated fall festival," said a Division of Public Health spokesman in an emailed statement. "Event organizers are aware they will need a formal plan approval from the agency before the event takes place. We will continue to actively work with the organizers to ensure their plan meets all necessary health and safety requirements and the necessary mitigation and safety measures are in place,"

Firefly announced the cancellation of its 2020 event last March as the coronavirus first started its spread locally and around the world. It was planned for June 18-21 last year.

Last year’s lineup would have included acts like Rage Against the Machine, Billie Eilish and Blink 182.
