Delaware Brewers Guild releasing First State themed IPA

Delaware Brewers Guild

Breweries across Delaware are each brewing their version of a beer inspired by the First State.

The Delaware Brewers Guild is marketing a new IPA called “Dela-We-Are.”

Its recipe is open to the interpretation of each of the 22 guild members, and each version is meant to in some way represent the First State.

“We asked them to use ingredients from Delaware, work with a local chef, or brew something that was reminiscent of the feel of Delaware,” said Brewers Guild Market Chair Lauren Bigelow.

Brewer Patrick Staggs is Cofounder of Revelation Brewery in Rehoboth Beach. He says Revelation chose to make a traditional west coast IPA with an east coast style.

“We’ve got a ton of hops in this beer—some beautiful aromatic hops—and we did them very late in the boil and during fermentation, but then also fermented this like we would a west coast IPA so it’s nice and crisp and very drinkable,” said Staggs.

The collaborative marketing is meant to raise awareness about Delaware breweries and the loss of business they’ve endured as a result of state restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many have had to change their serving model, set up outdoor seating and can beers to go.

Each version of the new “Dela-We-Are” IPA is either already out or will be released before March 15th. The beer can be found in tasting rooms up and down the First State.
