Delaware Archives' First Saturday series moves online due to COVID-19 pandemic

The Delaware Public Archives’ First Saturday program series is now online due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Not only is this week’s First Saturday program series moving online - it’s also it moving up a day to Friday because of the July 4th holiday.

“July 3 at noon will be our first program, which is going to be the History of the 2nd Delaware Volunteer Infantry Regiment during the Civil War,” said Tom Summers - the manager of outreach services and public services at Archives.

He says they feel people still want to see something historical about Delaware for this holiday weekend - and Taylor Reynolds is providing it.

“Taylor’s a Processing Archivist here at the Delaware Public Archives. And he’s very, very passionate about history," said Summers. "He’s actually a part of the 2nd Delaware re-enactment group. And he’s been like this for a very, very long time in terms of his interest in history and especially the Civil War.”

The program begins with the formation of the 2nd Regiment in Wilmington in 1861 and follows the unit as it earned a distinguished reputation with the Army of the Potomac until it was mustered out of service in the summer of 1864.

Summers says the program begins at noon and will be available on the Archives website.
