Delaware’s celebration of Peace Week continues through this weekend.
302GunsDown is the primary sponsor of the “Bringing It Back to Peace” celebration in Wilmington Saturday.
Jea Street Jr. is with 302GunsDown, and calls the event Peace Week’s “grand finale.”
“The overall feeling that we want people to walk away with is the feeling of encouragement and love,” said Street. “We really do try to use culture as a weapon to fight against all of these ills we’re seeing in society. We use music to heal.”
In addition to music and free food, Street says the event will have a resource fair— with job and wellness information.
“The more we connect members of our community to the things that they need, the less likely they are to commit any crime, and certainly violent crime,” said Street.
The event is cosponsored by a number of groups including the Delaware Art Museum.
“Wilmington … has over the past 10 years or so become disproportionately violent, and it’s an all-hands-on-deck situation that needs to be fixed,” said Street.
The event will be held under the bridge at 3rd and Jackson from 12pm to 4pm. It will follow the fifth annual March for a Culture of Peace.
