Wesley College kicks-off new football season with a top 25 showdown

Wesley College opens its 2016 college football season Friday night

The Wolverines entertain Delaware Valley in a top 25 showdown at Miller Stadium in Dover.

Wesley is ranked 7th nationally in Division III while Del Val is #25 to start the season.

The Wolverines are beginning their quest for a 12th consecutive NCAA Tournament bid after reaching the NCAA Quarterfinals for the seventh straight time last year.

They’ll do so with a new quarterback. Nick Falkenberg takes over under center, replacing All-American Joe Callahan,  who is currently in the NFL trying to earn a spot on the Green Bay Packers’ roster.

Kick-off tonight in Dover is at 6 pm.   It will be Bob Andrus Night at the stadium, honoring the legendary former Wolverine head coach. Andrus guided Wesley in the 60's, 70's and 80's, establishing the team as a junior college powerhouse.  He then led the transition to a four-year college and NCAA Division III affiliate.

Andrus, a Delaware Sports Hall of Famer, died last November at age 90.
