Delle Donne, Chicago Sky returning to Newark this spring

Delaware Public Media

Elena Delle Donne and the WBNA’s Chicago Sky will be back in Newark again this spring.

For a third straight year, Delle Donne and the Sky have scheduled a pre-season contest at the University of Delaware.  They’ll face the New York Liberty Sunday May 1st at the Carpenter Center

Delle Donne, a UD product, returns this time as the reigning WNBA Most Valuable Player and on the list of finalists for the U.S. Women’s national team headed to the Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

“Being several years removed from college and to see the continued support from fans in Delaware is absolutely unreal,” said Delle Donne in a statement. “I brag to my teammates all the time about Delaware and why it’s so special and every single time we come back, we feel loved.”

Delle Donne and the Sky have won their two previous games at the Bob.  They topped Washington Mystics 76-69 two years ago behind 17 points and 10 rebounds from Delle Donne.  Last year, they scored a 85-55 win over New York as Delle Donne posted 16 points and eight rebounds.

Tickets for this year’s contest go on sale Monday.
