Wesley College romps in 2015 football opener

Wesley College’s 2015 football season kicked-off with a one-sided win.

The Wolverines shook off a slow start in their 44-3 victory at Frostburg State Saturday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Wesley, ranked 5th nationally in Division III, exploded for four, second quarter touchdowns.  The Wolverines led 28- 3 at halftime and never looked back.

Senior quarterback Joe Callahan showed why he was a preseason all-American, completing 26 of 34 passes for 424 yard and 5 touchdowns.  He was not sacked and threw no interceptions.

Bryce Shade caught six Callahan passes for 162 yards and four TDs.  Running back Jamar Baynard added 136 yards rushing and 52 receiving as Wesley out-gained Frostburg 704 yards to 201.

The win is Wesley’s first as a member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Wolverines play their home opener next Saturday when another NJAC opponent, Christopher Newport, visits Dover.

Also Saturday, Delaware earned its first win of the season, topping Lafayette 19-9 in Newark.  Delaware State fell to 0-and-2 with a 45-14 loss at Kent State. Kent State kicker April Goss booted an extra point in the second quarter to become the second woman to score in a major college football game.
