A trio of local players get the call in NFL Draft

Three players with local connections were taken in the NFL draft – which wrapped up Saturday.

Auburn defensive tackle Angelo Blackson was selected by Tennessee in the fourth round with the 100th pick overall.

Blackson was is a former stand-out at Red Lion Christian Academy and lives in Bear.

Delaware State defensive tackle Rodney Gunter was also picked in round four. He went 166th overall to the Arizona Cardinals.  

Gunter is DSU's first NFL draft pick since wide receiver

Darnerien McCants was taken by the Washington Redskins in 2001. He's the Hornets' highest draft pick since receiver John Taylor was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round in 1986.

University of Delaware tight end Nick Boyle was taken in the fifth round by Baltimore with 171st pick overall.

Boyle is the first Blue Hen player to be drafted since center Gino Gradkowski was selected by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 2011 draft.

Boyle joins former UD quarterback Joe Flacco with the Ravens.  Flacco was the Ravens’ top pick in 2008.
