Delaware's new weekly unemployment claims continue to drop.
The state received 1,760 claims last week and paid out more than $13.8 million. It’s the first time Delaware’s new weekly claims were less than 2,000 in months.
Likewise, new national claims dropped below one million last week for the first time since mid-March.
This comes about a week after the state Division of Unemployment Insurance signed a lease for more space at its Newark facility with plans for expansion that officials say could cost up to $500,000.
Since the start of the pandemic, Delaware has received nearly 130,000 claims and paid out more than $755 million in benefits.
