Delaware Art Museum’s resident classical ensemble, the Pyxis Piano Quartet, says good-bye to the galleries where they debuted more than 10 years ago.
Their April 29, 2021 concert, “What’s Past is Prologue,” will be their final one before the museum closes to reimagine its galley space.
“This concert is back at home in the Pre-Raphaelite Galleries where they very first played in 2009," said Saralyn Rosenfield, the director of learning and engagement at the Delaware Art Museum. "And this is important because the way that the galleries are configured now is how they were in 2009. And they're actually going to be changing it up this summer.”
The museum closes June 21 so it can reconfigure and reimagine the stories it tells with art. New permanent galleries of Pre-Raphaelite art open July 31.
Rosenfield says the group is adept and helping add to vistors enjoyment and understanding of the museum's collections.
“They have made many connections between the artwork, the time periods and the music that they’re playing," said Rosenfield. "So they’re often going in and doing a lot of research beforehand to find those connections. They’ve also done some commissioned work by local composers in the area as well.”
