Beethoven's 250th birthday to be celebrated in live performance by Serafin & Friends

Beethoven’s upcoming 250th birthday will be recognized locally this month.

Serafin and Friends will celebrate the master pianist and composer Ludwig van Beethoven with a concert at The Music School of Delaware’s Wilmington Concert Hall on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 7 p.m.

The Music School’s president Kate Ransom is artistic director and a violinist in The Serafin Ensemble chamber music group.

She notes this concert is special for all the performers, "Beethoven may be the most iconic and known composer of all time in our era today. And so even though he passed away almost 250 years ago, he’s sort of alive and well through his music to this very day.”

Ransom notes that the concert will feature a repertoire including Beethoven’s fifth Violin Sonata, the fifth Cello Sonata and Fifth Symphony.

Seating is limited for the concert, but it will also be live-streamed.

Ransom notes that everyone making a reservation to attend or watch, will be entered to win a Beethoven-themed prize.

You can buy tickets here.

Meantime, 0n Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 10 a.m., Julie Coucheron and William Ransom will be guest presenters for the Music School's Classical Cafe series (virtual only).

The online session (via zoom) will focus on Beethoven's great Fifth Symphony as the perfect representation of all of his work.

Reservations are $10 per person.
