Arts Playlist: 'A Wealth of Nature: Photographs by Jane Mruk'

A new photography exhibit is on display at the Historic Odessa Foundation.

It’s called “A Wealth of Nature: Photographs by Jane Mruk.”

And in this week’s Arts Playlist, Mruk speaks with Delaware Public Media’s Kelli Steele about her career and what she hopes this exhibit will inspire.

Mruksays the exhibit includes about 40 of her photographs, mostly capturing Delaware’s natural beauty over the past 15 years.

“Over that time frame, I have gotten outside and really enjoyed nature," she said. "And that was really the goal of my exhibit - was to inspire people to just step outside and allow nature to soothe them and recharge them and to learn to appreciate their surroundings; because I think there are some things everywhere that you can find beauty in if you just stop and take a look.”

Mruk notes her passion for photography began as a child and she’s worked since to hone her art and develop an eye for capturing overlooked beauty in nature.

Mruk reiterates that her photos capture the beauty in nature throughout the First State, and she strongly believes in its therapeutic benefits.

“I kind of feel like if you’re outside, it’s definitely going to improve your mood, it can help lower stress," said Mruk. " It certainly is a place where I go to recharge - like I will get up and I’ll go watch a sunrise. And even doing that for 5 to 10 minutes, really just seems to improve your mood and your day.”

Mrukis also a frequent contributor to Outdoor Delaware magazine.

You can see Mruk's exhibit through November 1 in the Historic Odessa Foundation's Vistitors Center gallery.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.

Kelli Steele has over 30 years of experience covering news in Delaware, Baltimore, Winchester, Virginia, Phoenix, Arizona and San Diego, California.
