Delaware nurses will get more support to grow, advance and develop statewide

Delaware Nurses Association

As Nurse’s Week kicks off, the Delaware Nurses Association launches the Delaware Nurses Foundation and the Delaware Nurses Workforce Institute.

The Delaware Nurses Foundation will be the philanthropic arm of the Delaware Nurses Association, and work to ensure every nurse in the state has access to mental health and well-being resources.

Former Lt. Gov Bethany Hall-Long is the president of the Delaware Nurses Foundation.

"Nursing is the backbone of healthcare. We are the art, we are the science, and with this new foundation let's think about, like 4 or so legs around the table. What are we going to have? We're gonna have philanthropy in the art side, the education piece, some scholarships, we'll need to raise some funds, and also those of us who do a lot of science and research," said Hall-Long.

Hall-Long notes improved recognition will also be a part of the foundation.

The Delaware Nurses Workforce Institute will serve as the state nursing workforce center, and will collect, analyze, research and report on nursing workforce data.

Former Delaware Nurses Association president Stephanie McClellan will lead the Delaware Nurses Workforce Institute.

"We do plan to work closely with the Delaware Nurses Association to grow the size, the skill and the success of our nursing workforce, and we are more dedicated to that than ever,” said McClellan. “With research collaboration and communications the institute is going to work to grow and strengthen Delaware's nursing workforce."

The plan is to implement innovative solutions statewide that alleviate nursing workforce shortages and grow the nursing workforce.
