Middle Run tree planting in 2011.

The Delaware Nature Society plans to spruce up a New Castle County park with tree plantings this weekend.

They expect to plant more than 600 trees at Middle Run Valley Natural Area in Newark to help maintain the area’s biodiversity and increase forest habitat and stream buffers.

The trees will help filter pollutants and decrease erosion.

About 55,000 trees have been planted in Middle Run since 1991. Some of the species include tulip trees, oak and ash.

The nature society is looking for volunteers to help out. To learn more, contact Marie Graham at 302-239-2334 x 111 or Marie@DelNature.org.
