Bayhealth and Highmark agree to new contract

Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield customers won’t have to worry about being charged out-of-network prices for healthcare through Bayhealth Medical Center.

The two organizations agreed to new contract terms Friday -- two days before their former contract would have expired.

The terms of the new contract are unknown.

This new agreement will formally be implemented May 20, and in a short release from Highmark and Bayhealth, they say their customers will not see any lapse in coverage.

Bayhealth is one of the largest healthcare providers in the state, serving all three counties with in and out patient care, clinical services and emergency treatment.

State lawmakers were concerned enough that they sent a letter to state human resources officials this past week, asking them to extend open enrollment for public workers in case they needed to switch providers.
