Rockwood Park and Museum is getting ready for its annual Holiday Open House.

And Santa Claus stopped by Wednesday to make sure everything is ready for the public this weekend.

"Lights look great all the decorations are  where I want them and I'm sure Mrs. Claus will be happy with the decorating that everyone did down here at Rockwood Mansion," he said.

Santa Claus put his stamp of approval on this weekend’s activities at Rockwood Park and Museum where he will return to meet with children on Friday and Saturday.

Santa joined New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer in making sure the final touches were made on lighting and decorations were in place for the 19th annual Holiday Open House.

New Castle County Councilman John Cartier says the event is aimed at kids.

"The holiday season is really special for the kids and we do it really well here for the kids because we have a family-friendly event with lots of activities for children and also it's free,” said Cartier. “So people can come here and enjoy this heritage property decorated magnificently for the season and have a great time."

The Holiday Open House is on Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and it includes entertainment, crafts, costumed characters, refreshments, food trucks and photos with Santa.

"[Families can]come and experience a magical night,” said Suzanne Casey,  Coordinator for the New Castle County Department of Community Services. “We have tons of performances, Nutcracker, the Snow Queen. You get to experience something like Indian dance culture, just all kinds of things happening in the carriage house. Inside the Mansion you get a beautiful one-on-one with Santa Claus in a special room."

Casey adds the photo with Santa is free. There are also tours of the holiday display in the museum, and a light display in the gardens surrounding the Mansion and Carriage House.

There will also be a Holiday Shoppe that the county promises will sell gifts for the whole family.
