Nearly 200 cats seized as part of animal abuse arrest

Brandywine Valley SPCA Facebook page

The state’s Office of Animal Welfare arrested in Camden-Wyoming woman last week in connection with one Delaware’s largest animal abuse cases ever.182 cats and one dog were seized from the 65-year-old Linda Favre’s property.

Favre was arraigned on 19 charges, including animal cruelty, and released pending a court hearing.

A tip earlier this month led officers from the Office of Animal Welfare’s Delaware Animal Services (DAS) to the property where the found the animals living in "deplorable conditions."

One cat was found dead on the property and two others died since officers found the animals. The remaining cats were taken to the Brandywine Valley SPCA and given care. Several suffered from malnourishment, skin issues from flea infestation, upper respiratory infections and other conditions related to neglect.

“The conditions these animals were subjected to were horrid,” said the Delaware Animal Services Chief Mark Tobin in a statement. “No animal should live like that, and unfortunately, three cats lost their lives as a result. We are grateful that this was reported so that action could be taken. We feel good knowing the animals are in good hands, and will not suffer any longer.”

According to BVSPCA, the dog and 118 cats have been placed for adoption or transferred to another shelter or rescue. Sixty-one cats remain available for adoption across the four BVSPCA campuses.
