Most First State COVID-19 numbers continue moving up

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

After announcing a single day record for new COVID-19 cases yesterday, Delaware gets a small reprieve Wednesday.

State health officials report Delaware added 353 new cases Tuesday after seeing all-time high 686 Monday.

But Delaware’s other coronavirus numbers are still heading in the wrong direction.

The seven-day average for new cases hit a new-high, just over 531.  That’s the first time that number has ever been above 500. And the average percent of positive tests moved above 7 for the first time since early June.  It is at 7.5 percent.

Hospitalizations continue their steady climb.  273 people are now hospitalized, the first time the state has been over 270 since mid-May.

The state also reported 2 new COVID-related deaths, lifting the Delaware’s death toll to 779.

There was one death in New Castle County and one in Sussex County.  Both victims had underlying health conditions and one was a long-term care facility resident.
