The Green- December 6, 2019

Listen to this edition of The Green or individual segments below:

It’s been just over a year since the State of Delaware reached a 50-year lease agreement to turn over operation of the Port of Wilmington to GT USA, the American arm of global port operator Gulftainer.

The deal was expected to bring additional revenue to the state while creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs as Gulftainer invests up to $700 million dollars to upgrade and expand the port.

14 months in – how are these plans progressing? And what is the outlook for the Port’s future?

Contributor Jon Hurdle checked in with state and port officials to get some answers.

A handful of First State charter schools are seeking renewals this year, and this week the state’s Charter School Accountability Committee met to weigh in on their status.

Although four of the five up for renewal have had issues in the past,  it doesn’t appear any will face an issue gaining approval to continue operating.  That includes Odyssey Charter School, which was placed on probation earlier this year after questions were raised about its management and financial dealings.

Contributor Larry Nagengast was at this week’s committee hearing and outlines each school’s situation.

An award winning author is coming to Delaware to discuss her new book.

The author is Margaret McMullan - and the book is “Where the Angels Lived: One Family’s Story of Exile, Loss and Return.”

McMullan says discovering a long-lost cousin listed in Israel’s Holocaust Museum prompted her to embark on a journey to learn more about her family’s true history.

And in this week’s Arts Playlist, McMullan chats with Delaware Public Media’s Kelli Steele about this new book that journey produced and next week’s book discussion in Rehoboth Beach.
