Residents who live or spend time in the Greenwood area are advised that a fox there tested positive for rabies.
Delaware’s Division of Public Health (DPH) says the fox bit a person last Friday. It was then tested and found to have rabies.
DPH says the person bit is undergoing treatment for rabies exposure.
The incident was in the vicinity of Route 16 in Greenwood between Judy Road and Century Farm Road. Residents who think they may have been bitten, scratched, or come in contact with the fox should contact their health care provider or the DPH Rabies Program at 744-4995.
If you believe your pet had contact with the fox, call your veterinarian and report it to the Delaware Department of Agriculture.
So far this year, rabies tests have been performed on 136 animals. Nine - including a dog, a raccoon, a skunk, two cats, three bats, and this fox - were confirmed to be rabid.
In 2020, DPH performed rabies tests on 121 animals. Four had rabies, including one raccoon, one bat, and two cats.
