DNREC encourages Christmas tree recycling

Dec 28, 2019

If you put up a real Christmas tree this year, you are reminded to recycle it.

DNREC is encouraging residents to recycle Christmas trees at a yard waste site, or to place the tree curbside for recycling.

This is an effort to be environmentally friendly during and after the holidays.

DNREC’s website has a list of yard waste sites accepting Christmas tree, and they can be dropped off right now.

Every facility has a different schedule for accepting Christmas trees, so call ahead before taking a tree to recycle.

DNREC adds people can check with their trash hauler to see if they collect trees and what their schedule and requirements are to take them.

Christmas trees are no longer accepted for recycling at Delaware State Park locations.

Trees being recycled should be stripped of all decorations and lights, and detached from a tree stand.

If you have any questions on Christmas tree recycling just go to, or call DNREC at 302-739-9403.
