Delaware gets a respite from rising COVID-19 numbers

Delaware’s COVID-19 numbers are seeing little movement over the Memorial Day weekend.

State health officials reported 2 new COVID-19 related deaths Sunday and 119 new cases. That's after adding 2 deaths and 161 cases Saturday.

The total number of deaths statewide is now 326.

The latest victims were between 33 and 88 years old, One was from New Castle County and the other was from Sussex County. One had underlying health conditions and one lived in a long-term care facility.

The state has a total of 8,809 cases since March 11th.

At the county level, New Castle County added 71 new cases Sunday and now has 3,309.  Sussex County saw 19 new cases, lifting its total to date to 4,103.  Kent County is at 1,340 cases after adding 25 Sunday,

Current hospitalizations were up just one to 211. 44 poeple are critically ill.

The 5-day average of the percentage of people testing positive is also holding steady around the 10 percent mark, while the five-day average new positive cases also continues to trend downward.

Another 144 patients are considered recovered from the virus, bringing that total to 4,598 since the start of the outbreak.
