Commemorative Tree Fund revived in Rehoboth Beach

The City of Rehoboth Beach is launching an updated version of its popular tree donation program.

Numerous requests are prompting the City of Rehoboth Beach to re-launch its popular tree donation program.

The Commemorative Tree Fund is a community initiative.

“It’s a partnership with the City of Rehoboth Beach and our Tree Committee - the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on trees - which is composed of residents and citizens of Rehoboth Beach,” said s Liz Lingo, city arborist for Rehoboth.“We came up with this program so people can donate money and have a tree planted in honor of a loved one or in recognition of an event or we also have one that we’re doing for the head of our Tree Committee for her service to the Committee itself.”

Lingo says trees purchased through this program are planted on public property and cared for by the City of Rehoboth.

She notes that in an effort to recognize gifts of $350, $600 or $1,000, local artist Bill Wolff has created a tree sculpture in the atrium at City Hall; each donor to the Commemorative Tree Fund will have a custom engraved leaf in various colors attached to the sculpture.
