2 new COVID-19 deaths, over 150 new cases reported in First State Friday

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

Delaware reports nearly 200 new COVID-19 cases and 2 additional deaths Friday.

The state’s death toll is now 512.

The latest victims were Kent County residents over the age of 60.  Both lived in long-term care facilities and had underlying health conditions.

State health officials added 192 new cases to the state’s culumative total Friday – with 159 of those new cases coming on Thursday alone.

The First State has seen 100 or more new cases in 5 of the past 7 days, including 344 the past two days alone.

The total positive cases in the First State since March 11 is now 11,923.

The 5-day average of new positive cases has been over 100 for an entire week – while the 5-day average of the percentage of people testing postive has been 6 or above for six consecutive days.

But the number of hospitalizations statewide dropped by 10 to 57 with 13 people critically ill.

The Div. of Public Health also reports 5 new deaths at long-term care facilities this week, raising that total to 334.  The total number of cases in those facilities dropped by 10 this week to 1,154.  DPH says the drop is the result of the removal of duplicate cases from the state’s reporting system.

13 facilities have had 10 or more deaths. Harrison House Senior Living in Georgetown and Genesis Healthcare’s Milford Center have had the most deaths with 39 and 33 respectively.
