State Sen. Darius Brown is off the State Senate judiciary committee altogether.

The move is the latest response to an alleged altercation at a restaurant in North Wilmington last month that led to Brown’s arrest

Senate President Pro Temp David Sokola says in a statement Tuesday the move is meant to reduce distractions in the committee as they consider big bills making changes to the criminal justice system

Brown was previously Judiciary Committee chair before being removed from that position by Sokola in late May after the incident.

Sen. Kyle Evans Gay stepped as the new chair, and presides over the committee for the first time Tuesday.

Sokola says the move is pending Brown’s legal matters. Brown faces two misdemeanor charges after punching a woman in the face over an argument about a social media post, according to Delaware State Police.
