Delaware State Fire School requests funding for new, ADA compliant bathrooms

Officials at the Delaware State Fire School in Dover are asking for almost $1 million to renovate their bathrooms.

Fire School Director Robert Newnam says the state fire prevention commission submitted a capital budget request Tuesday to remodel the restrooms at the Kent County complex.

"Working with Facilities Management, this has been a project we’ve attempted to do since about 2009. And we’re requesting that the State provide capital funding of about $859,000 to remodel the restrooms at the Dover facility,” said Newnam.

Newnam says one side of the building was constructed in 1967 and the other side was built in 1982.

“Though they were built to code at the time, they are not at code now, so we’re looking at having them reconfigured to meet the code (ADA compliant) and meet the needs of the future,” says Newnam.

The request includes more than $64,000 for architectural and engineering design, $736,500 for construction and $58,500 for project contingency.
