Gov. John Carney (D) has named former U.S. Attorney Charles Oberly to join an independent review of a deadly February prison hostage crisis.

Oberly takes over for former state Supreme Court Justice Henry duPont Ridgely.

Ridgely recused himself three days ago after his sister-in-law, former budget director Ann Visalli, was named as a defendant in a lawsuit brought by correctional officers involved in the standoff.

The 18-hour hostage situation left guard Steven Floyd dead and has dominated the state’s political conversation over the past two months.

Oberly joins retired judge William Chapman Jr. on the review. It’s initial report is due at the beginning of June to give lawmakers time to react to any recommendations.

A final report is due in August.
