Chapman, Wallace win Newark City Council seats

Voters had their say a pair of contested Newark City Council races, handing victories to Luke Chapman and Jen Wallace.

In the 3rd District, Jen Wallace easily defeated Arlynn Hall 285 votes to 56 to take the seat are left by Rob Gifford, who decided not to run for re-election.

In the 5th district, incumbent Luke Chapman turned back a challenge from Donna Means by a 376-117 vote margin.  Chapman has held the seat since 2012. 

Wallace and Chapman earn two-year terms on city council with their victories and will be sworn in later this month.

6th District Councilman Stuart Markum and Mayor Polly Sierer were unopposed, giving Markum another two-year term on council and Sierer three more years in the mayor’s office.
