Lawmakers get final budget building revenue numbers Monday

Delaware Public Media

The General Assembly Monday will learn just how much money it has to work with next year with the release of the final state revenue forecast.

Delayed decisions on what to cut and what to keep in next year’s state budget hinge on the outcome of the Delaware Economic and Financial Advisory Council (DEFAC) report.

The Joint Finance Committee recessed last month after only trimming a fraction of what needed to be done to build a balanced budget.

If they follow Gov. Jack Markell’s (D-Delaware) budget proposal from January, the group would still need to cut $64.7 million to close the gap.

Senate Republicans have also been eagerly anticipating the report as they sit on a proposed DMV fee hike that needs one of their votes to pass.

That bill has been unpopular, with the GOP saying Democrats haven’t given up enough concessions to warrant raising fees on Delawareans.

DEFAC meets Monday afternoon at 3pm
