DSU's Williams makes list of top HBCU presidents

Delaware State University President Dr. Harry L. Williams and two former DSU faculty are among the most influential presidents at Historically black colleges and universities.

HBCU Digest compiled the rankings, naming Williams the fifth most influential HBCU president in the country.

The publication cites Williams’ effort to help DSU emerge as a national leader in STEM development and his support for undocumented students enrolling at the University.

Last fall, Delaware State was one of a handful of universities in the country to make college a reality for undocumented students through a federal scholarship program. The school 34 undocumented students as part of the DREAM.US Opportunity Scholarship program.

Current Central State University president Cynthia Jackson-Hammond, a former dean of DSU’s College of Education, was listed as the sixth most influential HBCU president by the publication. 

Current Claflin University President and former DSU Vice President Henry Tisdale placed ninth on the list.
