The National Weather Service offers details on the tornado that hit Dover Thursday and confirms a second tornado hit near Marydel.
The NWS reports the EF-1 tornado in Dover touched down at 6:09 p.m. Thursday 2 miles southwest of Dover – starting west of Wyoming Mill Rd near Riverside Rd.
It traveled 3.2 miles in five minutes, reaching 100 yards wide with estimated peak winds between 100-to-110 mph.
There were no reported fatalities or injuries associated with the tornado.
It delivered substantial damage to the Dover Little League baseball fields at Schutte Park, then hit the City of Dover VanSant Generating Station before passing through the downtown area and re-intensifying at the intersection of Kings Hwy and N Dupont Hwy where damaged the Superlodge and Days Inn hotels.
The tornado dissipated at 6:14 p.m.
The National Weather Service also confirms a second tornado near Marydel Thursday, but no details on that one were provided, The National Weather Service says it will released more on that tornado later Sunday.
