The Delaware Department of Correction announced another inmate death connected to COVID-19.
The Department of Correction says Charles (R.J.) Patterson, a 55-year-old inmate from Sussex Correctional Institution died Monday at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus.
It says Patterson’s death was the result of complications from COPD, diabetes, hypertension, and COVID-19.
Patterson is the 11th inmate to die from COVID complications in Delaware and the 4th from Sussex Correctional Institution.
He initially tested positive for the virus on July 6th and had been hospitalized since July 12.
Patterson was serving a 6-year sentence for his 7th DUI offense conviction.
DOC says Patterson was the last of the over 375 Sussex Correctional Institution inmates who contracted COVID-19 in July.
The department adds that no inmates statewide are currently COVID positive, but 10 staff members have active cases as of Monday.
